COURSE OFFERINGS

(With the exception of Shakespeare, all new enrolling students
must start with the Technique 1 course and continue through the series of classes before enrolling in Advanced Scene Study)

Acting Technique I & II   $710
(Tuesday 1-3 pm or Tuesday 6-9:30 pm)

Technique I confronts the differences between the everyday world at large and how it changes when viewed by you as an actor.  Instruction is more individualized, tailored to strengths and weaknesses.  It focuses on enhancing the imagination, showing actors how to live in someone else's world.  Thus it sets a foundation for students to become actors under any circumstances in commercials, film, television and theatre.

Technique II allows students to work with partners and develop, skills and comfort with what is generally referred to as "scene work".  Exercises are structured improvisation with little memorization.  This course delves further into movement on stage using verbal and non-verbal interaction.  The course begins to put together loose ends from previous courses aimed at developing the skills to begin to take on the words of playwrights.  The ultimate goal here is to make acting more natural. In its purest form it becomes reacting, living and being.

Beginning/Intermediate Scene Study    $710
(Monday & Wednesday 6:30-8:30)

The full process of developing an actor continues with the words of the playwright, now the challenge.  Improvisation is taught with guided exercises leading to the memorization of the playwrights words- the final step, the tools of acting techniques give scenes life beyond words.  In context this is icing on the cake.  Exploring, playing and breathing new life into contemporary texts by writers like Mamet, Shanley and Weller as well as classic American playwrights like Miller, Williams and Odets.

Advanced Scene Study   $710
(Monday & Wednesday 8:45-10:45pm)

This class represents the highest level of work, and standards, for this studio.  To enroll students must earn the right to work with the classic texts of Ibsen, Chekov and Strindberg, along with contemporary and classic American playwrights. ACTTHEREP is cast from this class series.

Shakespeare    $610
(Monday & Wednesday 4-5:30)

ACT encourages the ability to perform Shakespeare as a means to establish, enhance and give dimension to the acting instrument. The course begins with the sonnets of Shakespeare, maintaining the integrity of content while keeping text and vocal standards at the highest levels. Shakespeare is broken down, examined, digested and finally learned. At course conclusion, students will have learned a sonnet, as well as a monlogue from a Shakespeare play which the class will break down as an ensemble.
